Leading pharmaceutical companies in Norway 2021, by revenue

Unlike its Scandinavian neighbors, the key players in the Norwegian pharmaceutical market are not domestic companies, but rather branches of major international giants in the sector. In 2021, the leading pharmaceutical company in Norway, in terms of revenue, was Sandoz AS. The company generated revenues of some 2.02 billion Norwegian kroner, and had a market share of 6.4 percent.

Pharmaceutical sales

   The value of pharmaceutical sales in Norway in 2020 was nearly 30 billion Norwegian kroner. The largest part of the pharmaceutical sales came from prescription pharmaceuticals. In particular, the group of pharmaceuticals that generated the largest turnover in 2020 were drugs for dieabtes treatment, which generated revenues of around 1.4 billion Norwegian kroner.

Nonprescription pharmaceuticals

  The total revenue generated from nonprescription pharmaceuticals in Norway reached a value of around 1.8 billion Norwegian kroner, after several years of increasing turnover. That year, the leading nonprescription pharmaceutical company in Norway, by market share, was GSK Consumer Health, with a market share of nearly 22 percent. It was followed by Karo Pharma AS, with a market share of 16 percent.
